Benefits of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich over Android 2.3 Gingerbread?

I currently own an Android Phone which uses Android 2.3 Gingerbread. I am planning to buy a phone which uses Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. What are the benefits of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich compared to Android 2.3 Gingerbread?
