Enabling the silent mode on Android Nexus 4

I am a person who is used to be in conferences and seminars often in a day. I would prefer my new Nexus 4 on silent mode completely at these times. Last day I found it beep though it was on silent mode. How can I enable the complete silent mode on the phone?

Usually the phone does not make a sound while the phone is in silent mode. Though in silent mode, the settings would not be selected to silent regarding notifications and all. That might be the reason it beeped in between. You can find out if all setting have been turned to silent by checking the personalize option in profiles after selecting silent mode. There could be some games or apps that have sound setting enabled which is overlapping the silent settings of the phone. Check them too. There are two volumes that you need to turn off for complete silent settings. One is the ringer which you would have done probably and the other is the media. Turn both of them off.
