    Hello friend,

I too used a Moto Defy earlier. Remember one thing, Motorola is officially not going to release ICS for the Defy.
So if you want ICS on your device, then you are compelled to root it and install custom ICS roms.

If you are new to rooting and all this, I'll tell you that rooting is a dangerous task and by doing a permanent root, you will void your warranty.
There are also some procedures with you can do a reversible root (which cannot be done on most other android devices).
In this way you can unroot your device and claim your warranty.

There are plenty of ICS ROM's available for Defy. Most of them are not stable versions.
But out of them, I would suggest Cyanogenmod 9 (CM9).
Cyanogenmod 9 is a custom ROM created by developers. It is based on ICS. So now you can run ICS unofficially on your device.
Previously there were some camera/battery bugs but now they are fixed in most of the versions.

Further, I would advice to visit XDA Forums.
There you would get proper advice from experts and developers.
There are many modified versions of the CM9 which you can choose from.
The procedures are normally simple but it would require some time to digest.
The process is also quite safe but incase some problem occurs, you can directly ask the developers.

ICS 4.0.4 made some improvements over the previous ICS versions. The interface was made much stable, screen rotation lags were fixed and camera quality was improved.

    Hope it helps,
    Regards!

Updating Motorola Defy with ICS is easy. There is a super stable custom firmware to do it. Follow the tutorial here: http://pinappu.hubpages.com/hub/Upda...Cream-Sandwich
