How to erase phone data from my Samsung Galaxy Y phone?

The Samsung Galaxy Y time is up and I am moving to the Nexus S. The problem is, if I want to sell my phone or give it to a family member, how do I erase all of the data from the phone? I have never had any credit information or financials like such, but with the security risks of the digital era, I had just liked to erase anything on the phone. The SD card is staying with me but contacts, Google account, etc. I like to erase. Any help is appreciated.
