How to stop running applications on Android powered HTC Droid Incredible?

While I was using my Android powered HTC Droid Incredible, it got hanged up in the middle due to the applications running in the background. I need to restart the whole device for getting back to the normal mode. Is there any setting available to stop the running applications within the device?

As a first step, you need to pull down the notification bar on your phone. Navigate through that bar and hit the ‘Settings’ option. The list of main settings will then pop up on the screen. Scroll through that list until you locate ‘Applications’ option. Then, make a single tap on this option with your fingers. This will bring up another set of options from which tap the ‘Running services’ option. You can then find the list of applications which are currently running on your phone. Check that list and tap over the application you want to close. After that, press the ‘Stop’ button visible on the app screen.
