Is it possible to import contacts from SIM and then move to a new Android device?

I bought a new Android phone recently. I want to import the contact details from my SIM card to the phone. I have a Gmail account set on the android phone. Can anyone tell me the directions to transfer the contact details from the SIM card to phone?

You can easily transfer the contactsfrom SIM to phone with few simple steps. Go to the contact apps on your Android phone. Then go to the contacts tab and hit on the menu button. You can find an option for improting/exporting from the screen and select ‘Import from SIM card’. Then it will ask where to create the contacts to. Since you have a Gmail account, select it. Android then scan your SIM card for further contacts and then a list of contacts are shown which you want to import. After that your SIM contacts will be imported and synced to your Gmail account. Then on your new android phone sign in to your Google account then the contacts will be synced to the new account.
