Is there any difference is buying a new Android phone with version 4 and upgrading an old Android phone to version 4?

I have heard that there will be an official update for android version 4 from Samsung for its premium android smart phones. But I am planning to buy Nexus which will already have version 4 in it. Can you tell me if there is any difference in both the cases?

When it comes to upgrading a android version, you can do it in two ways:
    • You can wait for your manufacturer to provide you the update
    • By manually rooting your device.
    1. If you are upgrading using the first method, You will enjoy the same benefits like New Phone Buyers.Your mobile will not pop up many problems.
    2. By doing it manually, you can personalize your android in a better way as per your requirement. But you loses the warranty and further updates and your mobile might show problems occasionally. This method has its own disadvantages.
    Bottom Line:

There is No differences if you see it simply, But in Technical sense there are differences, Your mobile might work very slow after upgrading Manually.

The main difference is hardware, you can update softwares of old android phone but what will you do with hardwares. The latest android version ICS 4 need some high specification to run smoothly that's why it is available for most oh high end phones.

There is no big difference in buying an old mobile and updating to a higher version or buying a new mobile that is already updated... Its actually better to buy a per-updated mobile since it does not involve the risk of updating through kies- There are many incidents of kies crashing while updating and the mobile getting bricked, this is due to the program's poor RAM handling.

There is not a great difference between a 4.0 android. ie ics phone or upgrading a phone to 4.0 android ie ics
Buying a 4.0 android phone is more recommended for you as upgrading a phone to 4.0 android ie ics is a great risk ie if something negative happens than your phone will not power on or your phone may become very very slow compared to a 4.0 android nexus phone so go with a 4.0 android phone ie icecream sandwich
