Is there any GPS Application which Doesn't use Internet for working?

My mobile has the facility of GPS but it works with google map which needs an internet connection to work properly. Now I want my GPS to work in such a way that no internet is needed. Is there any such app in android market or some where else which can do the job for me as it is very difficult to use GPS in an area where there is no Internet connection.

    Good Evening Friend,

    Probably not.

GPS runs off of a wireless signal powered by sources from the internet.

So, you may want one that can make use of the service you get from your provider

Hi, gps that is global positioning system is an inbuilt feature and has data related to maps which include location places etc. But still gps uses internet connection to update its data which includes search of new places and location. So gps will need an internet connection to access locations.Hope that helps. Thanks

GPS will only work when your connect to internet.Google Map,View street,GPS all work on internet.Without internet it will fail to work.
There are so many app for GPA but all will run on internet only.& you are also right the place where signal is low internet will not work. But you have to use it with internet only. So,better to stick with same.

GPS is an application which requires internet connection , as it gets it data from Satellite which is possible thru internet and nothing else.
So it is not possible to have application for GPS without Internet connection

    Hello Friend,

GPS ia an application which returns your location coordinates by connecting to the servers of Satellites and retrieving data from them and hence it requires a data connection to connect with the Servers,Hence forth it becomes impossible for a GPS navigation app to work in offline mode.

    Hope It Helps!

    Thanks and visit again.

Based on the responses I've read I would say the majority of the people who answered your question don't know what they're talking about.... So lets see if I can clarify a few things that might be helpful to you.

GPS - Global Positioning System : there are 27 satellites that orbit the earth in a very specific orbit. Of the 27 satellites, 24 are "active", which means they are transmitting a signal. The "active" GPS satellites transmit data that indicates its location and the current time. All GPS satellites synchronize operations so that these repeating signals are transmitted at the same instant. The signals, moving at the speed of light, arrive at a GPS receiver. The signals arrive at slightly different times because some of the satellites are farther away than others. The distance to the GPS satellites can be determined by estimating the amount of time it takes for their signals to reach the receiver. When the receiver estimates the distance to at least four GPS satellites, it can calculate its position in three dimensions. So, in essence, anything that can understand the signal, carried through air and space (NOT THE INTERNET), can provide you your current location.

As an example, if you buy a Tom Tom or a Garmin, these do not access the GPS signal through the Internet. The GPS devices have preloaded maps, and have a reciever as well as a software algirithim that calculates your position on the map based on the signal its receiving... The only reason "smart phones" use the Internet to display your location using a GPS signal is because they need access to the maps which your position is being displayed on and they need a "receiver" to calculate your position on the map.

In other words, if your Android or smart phone has preloaded maps in it, all you need is for your phones cell signal to work which would allow you to receive the signal. NO DATA USAGE....

Try Navigon, or Tom Tom for Android.... These might helpful and maybe just ... Good luck

you can use Sygic...it uses pre-loaded maps it requires net connection only on startup to get the intial position...it works automaticall after that..

and to all idiots who have replied above...

GPS Device is an internal hardware installed in a Cell phone....when you ask for a coordinate it does not require internet connection...it requires internet connection only to load the map which is provided for those co-ordinates....so please don't give noob replies saying no maps can be loaded without internet....

if you go to google maps and hit 'my position' if you are on a location which is already buffered on you cell you can see your map without internet connection
