Is it true that Firefox is going to form an OS and the device with Firefox OS will be less in cost than Android device?

I recently came to know that Firefox one of the leading browsers in market going to design a OS for devices like mobile phones and tablets. Is that true? And is the device with Firefox OS will be less in cost than Android device? What are the major difference between the Firefox OS and the Android OS?

Yes that is right that the Firefox is building a new OS and it totally based on the HTML source code. The project name is Boot to Gecko project and it is under process as of now and will be available in a few days time. The difference between the Android OS and Firefox OS is that android is based on open source Linux and the other one is based on open source Web.
    Hope this Helps.

Firefox OS (formerly Boot to Gecko, B2G) a new fully open mobile ecosystem based on HTML5. It is built to open web standards, based on HTML5. It is developed based on allowing HTML5 applications to access the underlying capabilities of a phone previously only available to native applications. It is Programmed in C++ and JavaScript. The supported platforms include ARM and the kernel type is Linux with some modifications made by ASOP and vendors. It has a hardware abstraction layer which is codenamed GONK. It uses platform independent Javascript APIs for different functions like SMS, Camera, Bluetooth. It also has platform independent system apps like Lock screen, phone dialer which are all written in HTML5. The OS specializes in HTML5 based web applications.
The user interface of Firefox OS is called Gaia. All that appeares on the screen after the boot up has some or the other part made of Gaia. It implements a lockscreen, dialer, messenger,camera...

    Hello,

Firefox OS is an OS by Mozilla that aims to support HTML5 apps written using "open Web" technologies rather than platform-specific native APIs. The idea is essentially to have all user-accessible software running on the phone be a Web app that uses advanced HTML5 techniques and device APIs to access the phone's hardware directly via JavaScript.
Yeah it is possible that we can get it at lower cost, so let us hope that.

    Regards
