Unable to search contact using alphabetical order in android

I am using an android 4.0 smartphone. The problem is that I am not able to search any contact using the first letter of the name in the alphabetical order. But when I type the numbers, I am able to sort the contact name out. Why is it so? How this problem can be resolved?

Re: Unable to search contact using alphabetical order in android

    Hi,
The problem with the Contacts application not being able to detect the contacts with alphabets might be due to the fact that the contacts are listed by "Last Name". In order to change the contact display by first name open the application drawer and then select the contacts application with the contacts application open press the menu button and then select the option as "Display Options" in the display options select the option as to display the names by first name. Once it is done you will be able to search the contacts by typing the alphabets.
    Hope this Helps.
