    Hello Friend,

Android is an open-source software stack for mobile devices developed by Open handset Alliance and Google in coalition. It comprises of operating system, middleware and key applications. It is built on the open Linux Kernel and utilizes a custom virtual machine to optimize memory and hardware resources in a mobile environment. It was built to be truly open.Android gets its name from Andola which means means robot and now doubt it does justice to that.

Android is running hot these days because of some of its unique features like:-

1)Application framework to enable the reuse and replacement of components

2)Virtual machine optimized for mobile devices

    3)Integrated browser

    4)Optimized graphics

    5)Customizability

    6)Open platform for innovation

    7)Flexible monetizing and distribution

The Android is not using Mainframe technology right now but its eapected to Tap into Mainframe by the end of this year.

    Hope It Helps!

    Thanks and visit again

Google is not the founder of Android, In the year 2005,Google purchased "Android " from its initial developer, Android Inc., Hence Google named the software "Android".

Many applications available are made of "Java". You can say Mainframe Technology is very much involved in Android OS as well as in its applications.

As "devaezhil" found out, the name "Android" belongs to the first developers of the software "Android". they tried to develop an open source operating system. But Google some how identified the potential behind "Android" and bought the company in the year 2005 and named the project "Android."

Now the Android is developing into the most used "Mobile Operating systems" in the world. They were able to release updated versions every 6 months.

Hi..! Android is a Linux-based operating system developed by Open Handset Alliance and is widely used in tablets , smartphones etc. Meaning of "Android" is male robot who is designed to look and act like a human being. I don't think Mainframe Technology is used in Android...!
